Citizen science is the involvement of everyday members of the public in crowdsourcing scientific research, and April is Citizen Science Month!
Map neurons to help with neuroscience research at Princeton!
In this program we'll be going over how to use EyeWire: a game that uses crowdsourcing to help map the retina in the brain. It takes a neuroscientist tens of hours to map a single cell, so EyeWire enables you (or anyone!) to help with that process and map neurons, allowing researchers to identify new synapses and cell types. No prior scientific knowledge is required, just access to a computer, curiosity, and enjoyment of solving puzzles. We'll do a walkthrough of how to use EyeWire, and then spend some time working on mapping brain cells and talking about what we find.
A computer and a device that can access Zoom are required for this program; if your computer can access Zoom, only one device is required. Registration is also required!
