Our elevator is out of order. Staff are happy to bring any requested items to the first floor and make any other reasonable accommodations.

Tiny Art Show

Make some art for our 2026 Tiny Art Show! Your only limit is a 4x4" canvas: use any art style or medium you like as long as it fits. For all ages.

Submission requirements:

  • Submissions must be on supplied 4x4” canvases, but can be any medium or style as long as they are on or attached to the provided canvas (painting, drawing, sewing, etc.). Starting on December 26, canvases can be picked up from the First or Second Floor Circulation Desk any time during the library's open hours:
    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:30am-5:30pm
    • Tuesday, Thursday: 9:30am-9pm
    • Saturday: 9:30am-4pm
    • Sunday: 12pm-5pm
  • All submissions must be submitted by 5:30pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 to the First or Second Floor Circulation Desk.
  • There is no age or town residency requirement for submitting artists.

Important Dates:

  • December 26-February 4: Canvases available for pickup from the library's First and Second Floor Circulation Desks
  • Sunday, January 11: Kits including paints and brushes available for pick up from the library's First Floor Circulation Desk while supplies last
  • Saturday, January 17: Drop In Paint Day! Work on a painting for our Tiny Art Show in a supportive group environment! We'll be in the Brown Room.
  • Wednesday, February 4: All submissions are due by 5:30pm to the First or Second Floor Circulation Desk
  • Wednesday, February 11: Tiny Art Show Unveiling & Reception in the Fireplace Room from 6-7pm
  • Thursday, February 12-Tuesday, March 31: Tiny Art Show on display in the Fireplace Room

After the show is over, artists will be contacted at the information provided in their submission form to let them know their art can be picked up; usually this is several days to a week after the end of the show to allow all the pieces to be taken down and organized.

Our Tiny Art Show is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library and the Southbury Public Library Gift Fund. 

2025 Tiny Art Show

Our 2025 Tiny Art Show was mounted at our Temporary Location in the Heritage Hotel from May –June 30, 2025. 

We had 132 pieces of art submitted to us by a wide variety of our community members, ranging in age from 8 months to 77+ years old. Materials used include paint, colored pencils, crayons, encaustic wax, paper, polymer clay, and more.

Our 2025 Tiny Art Show was sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library and the Southbury Public Library Gift Fund.

No date is scheduled yet for next year, but we are hoping to continue having Tiny Art Shows annually.

2024 Tiny Art Show

Our 2024 Tiny Art Show was mounted upstairs in the Teen Department from February 22 through March 22, 2024. 

We had 177 pieces of art submitted to us by a wide variety of our community members, ranging in age from 4 months to 89 years old. Materials used include paint, colored pencils, crayons, encaustic wax, 3d pens, egg shells, beads, handmade marbled paper, polymer clay, and more!

Arranging and coordinating our Tiny Art Show was the Senior Project of Trey Brattain, Pomperaug High School Class of 2025, longtime library volunteer, and recipient of a 2024 Friends of the Southbury Public Library Scholarship.

Our 2024 Tiny Art Show was sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library
