SOUTHBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY PROGRAM POLICY
Library sponsored programming is an extension of the Southbury Public Library’s mission to transform lives through educating, inspiring and connecting. Library sponsored programs expand library users’ informational, cultural and recreational experiences.
The Southbury Public Library provides a wide variety of programming as funded by the Friends of the Library and other donation based funds, for people of all ages with priority given to book-based, informational, cultural and/ or arts/ crafts programs.
Speakers and materials for programming are selected on the basis of expertise of the speaker, relevance of the subject matter, cost, and availability. Selection of programming is determined by Southbury Library Head Librarian and its professional librarians. The Southbury Public Library supports intellectual freedom and adheres to the “Library Bill of Rights” adopted by the American Library Association and the “Freedom to Read'' Statement issued jointly by the American Library Association and the Association of American Publishers. Copies of these documents are available in the Library Policies binder in the Circulation Workroom and on the Library’s website.
All library sponsored programs shall be free and open to the public.
The sale of books, CDs or other creative works by authors, performers, and presenters is allowed as part of the library sponsored program as approved by Southbury Library Head Librarian and its professional librarians.
The library does not offer programming for a purely commercial purpose, nor does it allow presentations offered for free but with the intention of soliciting future business.
All presenters will be provided with guidelines that outline expected requirements of presenters and a list of support services (technology, publicity, etc.) that the library will provide. Copies of the guidelines will be available on the Policy page for the Southbury Public Library website. All presenters shall comply with the terms of the guidelines.
The Southbury Public Library will offer access to library programs in alternative forms, such as sign language interpretation, assisted listening devices, etc. as requested. 24 hour notice is appreciated.
