Event Details

Learn all about opossums and wildlife rehabilitation with Pam and Bill Lefferts of Ferncroft Wildlife and their opossum ambassadors! Find out more about what makes opossums so wonderful and what wildlife rehabilitators do. Meet Mango and Sherman, gentle opossum ambassadors (who cannot be released), who will be there to greet and take photos.

Registration is required. This event is open to all ages, but children should remain with their adults and be able to sit for about 45-60 minutes. This event is free, open to residents of any town, and sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library.

About the Lefferts and Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue: Always lovers of animals, the Lefferts began the process of becoming Wildlife rehabilitators in 2016 and opened Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue in early 2017. Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue is a 501(c)3 organization with permits to provide educational programs in CT, MA and RI. The Lefferts hold special Federal permits and State approval to keep educational animals. It is illegal for any person, other than a state appointed rehabilitator, to care for wildlife.

Educational Ambassadors Opossums are non-releasable opossums, who join the Lefferts as “spokespossums” for Ferncroft. They are not pets and require a special license to be out in public. Ambassador animals used for educational programs help bring an awareness and understanding of opossums and other wildlife through hands-on interactive moments.
