FAQs
We have a limited amount of books available for browsing for adults, teens, and children, as well as some adult DVDs.
If you have something specific in mind that is listed as available, place a hold on the item(s) you are interested in, and we will pick it up from the main library and bring it to our Heritage Hotel location for you to pick up. Please note: holds will take at least 24 hours to become available (we need to pick them up, transport them, and organize them with the rest of our hold shelf). You can place a hold online with your card, by calling us at 203-262-0626, or in person at our Heritage Hotel location.
In addition to books, you can also place DVDs/BluRays, Books on CD, Playaway Audiobooks, and music CDs on hold.
If you would like to get a library card for the very first time (or your old card is lost or damaged), you can stop by our Heritage Hotel location during our open hours. To start the process before coming in, you can also apply online and pick up your card in person at our Heritage Hotel location. If you are getting a brand new card made, please arrive at least 30 minutes before we close.
You can renew your card at our Heritage Hotel location during our open hours.
You can return any items to the outside book drop at the main Library on 100 Poverty Road, or you can bring them with you to our Heritage Hotel location. For books returned to the book drop at 100 Poverty Road, it may take at least 24 hours to remove them from your card.
No! Though we do not yet know when we will reopen, we WILL reopen! The building systems need repairs, but the building is structurally sound.
We don’t know! We still have to wait for an engineer to draw up a plan, then for bids to be requested for that plan, then those bids to be accepted, and then the actual work can start, pending order supply times and other factors.
We will share information on our website and social media accounts as we have it, but you can also follow the Town of Southbury’s website and social media accounts for the most up-to-date information.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media accounts and the Town of Southbury's website and social media accounts (Town Facebook & Town Instagram). These and Library and Town staff and officials are the only reliable sources of information.
Yes (for the most part)! Everything on the first and second floor is totally safe! There is no damage to either floor, both of which have been kept dry and dehumidified since the flood. The building has also passed safe air quality tests, so mold is not a concern. Unfortunately, we (and the Friends) did lose everything in the basement.
We need additional time in the morning to pull materials that have been placed on hold and retrieve any items that have been returned to the outside book drop at 100 Poverty Road. Our evening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays are shortened to enable better staffing earlier in the day.
