Program Description

Event Details

Join Jillian Celentano and a panel of transgender and gender-diverse teens who will discuss what it’s like to be a transgender/gender-diverse teen in 2023. Hear personal stories about their gender journeys: the good, the bad, and how these teens are navigating through these challenging times. Learn about trans health care, the importance of an emotional support system, and what being an ally actually means.

This program is for parents, neighbors, educators, friends, and those eager to learn. Registration is requested.

Jillian is a transgender woman who began her transition in 2016 at the age of 55. She recently received her bachelors degree in psychology and her master's degree in social work at age 61. She is a licensed therapist, an advocate for the trans community, and has organized support groups for transgender/gender diverse children and young adults. Jillian co-authored two published transgender studies at Yale University and is a published author of her book, Transitioning Later in Life: A Personal Guide (you can request it from the library here). She works at a private practice as a therapist and educator for the transgender/gender diverse community. Jillian has spoken about transgender awareness and related topics throughout the state of Connecticut, including a talk at the Southbury Library in June 2022.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library.
