Please Note: Because our building is closed, we will be meeting at Parks & Recreation, 561 Main Street South.
On Veterans Day we commemorate the 1918 armistice of the Great War in Europe. The US involvement in that conflict, an entry both late and short-lived, has been overshadowed by larger and more lengthy wars. Nonetheless our contribution was historically important and meaningful to those involved. Nearly a hundred locals, male and female, were drawn into making their patriotic contributions. Town Historian John Dwyer will profile a half a dozen of our neighbors who gave service and also present a historical background of what is now known as the First World War.
John Dwyer and his family came to Southbury in 1984 to move into his wife's, Lynn, ancestral home. Their children were the 8th generation descendants to live there. The proximity to this heritage spurred an interest in antiquities into a study of local history.
Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this event is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library.
