The cost of everything has increased at the fastest rate since 1982, with inflation at 7.5% over the last 12 months of 2021. Food alone has jumped 7% according to the Hartford Courant. Did you know that 30% of our waste stream is made up of food scraps? Did you know that the equivalent of 1 in 4 grocery bags ends up in the trash? Much of this waste can be avoided by making small changes in how we shop, store, and prepare food resulting in wasting less food and saving money. Come join us to learn tips on meal planning, shopping, understanding food dates, including tips to extend the shelf life of purchased food, and proper storage techniques.

Presented by: Sustainable Southbury, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which works closely with the Town of Southbury on sustainability efforts and the Town’s pursuit of accreditation as a Sustainable CT town.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this event is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required. For more information about this program, please email Rebecca at rrandall@biblio.org or call the reference desk at 203-262-0626 ext 130.
