Program Description

Event Details

Join us on Zoom for a discussion about Lois's Story. Former First Selectman Ed Edelson and Artist/Illustrator BettyAnn Medeiros have recently collaborated on an illustrated children’s book that is based on the real events that took place in 1937 in Southbury, through the eyes of a young child. At this virtual author book event, they will discuss the motivation for writing the book, the challenges of putting the book together and what they hope to achieve with its publication.

Many Southburians are familiar with the basic story that was told so well through the documentary by Scott Sniffen that premiered in 2012 when the Town commemorated the 75th Anniversary of Southbury’s determination to prevent a Nazi training camp from being built on land purchased in the Kettletown area. In 2018, this important story was included as part of a major exhibit at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. “While walking through the bookstore at the USHMM, I saw a number of children books about the Holocaust. It occurred to me at that time that a children’s book based on the Southbury story would be appropriate even though some people had told me the subject was not appropriate for children”, said Ed Edelson.

Wednesday, March 17 at 5:00 pm online via Zoom.

Registration is required. Please register one login per family. Registrants will receive confirmation emails and Zoom credentials the morning of the event.
