Join us as the Southbury Library hosts Faith Vicinanza's, Southbury's Inaugural Poet Laureate, Book Launch. Ms. Vicinanza's latest poetry collection, Shall We Dance, chronicles the first three years of her trials and tribulations, relatable and often humorous, learning to ballroom dance at nearly seventy, a decision she made after an emergency medical event that quickly became complicated and led her to impulsively take a free dance class after her recuperation. That singular lesson led her down an unexpected winding road.
Tony Dovolani, World Champion Dancing With The Stars Professional and Fred Astaire National Dance Director, said of the collection "I found it to be insightful, passionate, and it takes you on a journey. I couldn’t put it down! Fantastic read!"
The evening will include a demonstration of ballroom dance by Fred Astaire of Southbury's dance instructor Vladimir Serbulenco who maintains an exceptional record of Pro/Am and Professional championship honors.
Ms. Vicinanza has been featured in venues from Stockholm, Sweden to San Francisco, has been a poet laureate nominee for the state of Connecticut, and is the recipient of the 2003 Connecticut Commission on the Arts Advocates for the Arts Award. Ms. Vicinanza has been widely published and Shall We Dance is her fifth poetry collection. Her forthcoming book, Breathe, due out later this year from Stairwell Books, York, England, is a collection of poetry and personal essays focused on family.
Join us for this celebration of Ms. Vicinanza's latest book release and an evening of dance.
Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required.
